A range of deep-edged, box (3D) canvases - approx 38mm stretcher bar depth.
We are quite passionate about using the correct support for your artwork - this comes not only from our knowledge of art materials and what they should all do for you, but also from our experience of framing for customers. You will find that with a good canvas:
You won't need to prime your canvas - a good quality canvas will already be primed enough to support your colours without your paints soaking into it - this will save you time & money in primer/gesso, paints and varnish as cheaper canvases act like a sponge if you don't go through the extra preparation prior to painting. You will find the process of painting on a well-primed surface far easier and more enjoyable too.
Your artwork won't have to be restretched or sized onto board for framing - often cheap canvases are so mishapen that they are impossible to frame into a not-wonky frame, leading to the necessity to have to take the canvas from the original cheap stretcher bars and restretch it onto straight ones, or sizing the canvas onto board (which can be a risk to the artwork too) and therefore dramatically increasing the cost of framing.
Our favourite choice of medium grain (standard) canvases is Daler Rowney Artists Range - in the 15+ years we have been trading we have found them to be consistently better quality than other manufacturers of a similar price range. They are one of the very few standard canvas ranges that are not made in China and the quality prooves this. The stretcher bars are made from sustainably forested sources and are a good solid wood and therefore unlikely to warp and become misshapen. The canvas itself is a good weight and well primed and not overly coarse. (Do not be confused with Daler Rowney Graduate or Simply ranges - they are not comparable quality).
